Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I pray this email finds you well! As we all gather around tables to give thanks to the Lord for all His provisions and expressions of grace in our lives, I am so very thankful for His continued faithfulness here at Brown. He has been at work in the lives of so many students in a variety of ways – one can’t help but to give Him thanks and praise. Just this week I met with a student (I’ll refer to him with the pseudo-name, John, in respect of his privacy) who, having endured the long process of joining a fraternity on campus, shared several stories of how the Lord has granted him great favor among his fraternity brothers. One of these fraternity brothers has sought John out, confessing that he is tired of the hookup culture, and wants more – that he wants to know more about what drives John to live the way he does. John has since had the pleasure of clearly sharing the hope of the Gospel with this student, coming alongside him as he begins to read the Gospel of John, answering questions as they come up. Though this student has not yet made the decision to follow Christ, he is well on his way, and John has had such an influential role in these beginning steps.  As dark and hopeless as fraternities and these campuses often are, the Lord is using students like John to be a beacon of hope. For that we give Him great praise and thanks!

As you pray for John and the student whom he is guiding toward Jesus, please also be praying for:

  • Racial Injustice and Tension on Campus: You probably read or watch the news so this won’t be a surprise to you, but racial tensions have reached a heightened state on campuses across the nation, including here at Brown. Please pray for racial reconciliation. Pray that the long struggle for racial equality would move forward where it needs to move forward. Pray that the Lord would move in a powerful way in the midst of all this unrest, and that the hearts that harbor the sin of racism would turn in confession and repentance to Christ the Lord, “who is all, and in all.” (Col. 3:11)
  • Endurance: The end of the semester is coming and both the students, as well as Matt Woodard, Ministry Director here at Brown, and I, desire to finish strong to the glory of God! Pray that His Spirit would empower the students to give their best toward their studies while caring for their friends. Pray also that Matt and I would finish strong in our teaching of Colossians as we love and shepherd these students during a very stressful time of the semester.

As always, thank you for struggling alongside us through prayer as we work to make much of the name of Jesus here at Brown!

Grace & Peace,

Justin Doyle
