June 2016

Dear HCFA friends and family,

I hope your summers are off to a good and sunny start! Cambridge has been beautiful and much quieter over the past month and a half. Harvard College Faith and Action (HCFA) staff have been enjoying a mix of taking time off, vacations, doing independent study and co-teaching our summer bible course. It is always a really refreshing change of pace from the incredible busyness of the semester, but already we are looking towards August with pre-retreat and freshman outreach.

The spring semester builds in excitement as graduation approaches. It is such a special time to see students we have watched mature through their college experience graduate and step out into new things. Between finals and graduation we took about 30 seniors up to Vermont for our annual senior retreat. This time is mostly set aside to be together, remember the time they have shared at Harvard, and have conversations around what it will look like to move, start new jobs, make new friends, and practice their faith outside of the HCFA community.  It was a really special time to be together one last time! During graduation week, we hosted a senior parents’ reception. It is always fun to meet the families of the students we have come to know so well! It has been a privilege to get to know these students and we are so excited to see all that the Lord has in store for them in the coming years. Please pray for these graduates - for job prospects, that they can transition well into this next phase of life, that the Lord would provide community for them wherever they go, and that their faith would only strengthen in the coming years.

This summer on campus is fairly quiet. HCFA staff co-teaches a summer bible course for any students who are around campus, and this year we are filming the sessions so that anyone can watch them. This year we are working through the book of Isaiah. Not an easy book, Isaiah has been a challenge for students as we consider the character of God, what prophecy and prophetic books mean, and the themes of judgment and salvation. Please pray for these courses and the students — that students would deepen their knowledge and love for God, that they would spend time in His word and in prayer, and that our community would continue to grow together in the more relaxed summer season. (Feel free to check them out here)

Lastly, please pray for our students who scatter all over the world during the summer. Pray that the Lord would protect them, that they would commit time to spend in prayer and scripture daily, that they would be challenged in their faith to grow. Pray for students to be bold about their faith and witness to the people around them on study abroad trips, in summer courses, in their houses and in internship positions. Pray that staff would be rejuvenated during the slower summer season and that we would grow in our faith and love for our good God.

In Him,
