March 2016

Dear Prayer Partners!

I write to you from New Haven, oscillating between beautiful spring weather and beautiful winter weather! Today it is sunny but very cold and we are halfway through Yale’s spring break.

As ministry staff, we have enjoyed a much-needed reprieve from the frenetic pace of student life. This “down time” in the office, spent reading and preparing for future Bible Course meetings, following up with students about various personal issues they are facing, and time of prayer and meetings as a staff has reminded me of how stress-inducing this environment can be. On the one hand, America’s future leaders are being trained and grown on this campus, and on the other, the moment class lets out they are just normal young people trying to relax and forget their troubles. Pray for us as staff to maintain the “long-view” as we care for students and not to be sucked in to the stress ourselves, but to point them to the peace and stability that the Lord offers.

In this season of anticipating Easter, it is our prayer for our students, for ourselves and for you, that all would experience the goodness and peace offered by our Savior, Jesus Christ.

As I meditated on the words of the hymn, “Breathe on Me, Breath of God,” by Edwin Hatch, I was reminded that this is our calling as Christians—to receive of the Lord and offer our lives back to Him:

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.
Breathe on me, breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.
Breathe on me, breath of God,
Blend all my soul with Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.
Breathe on me, breath of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.

With Easter only days away, and the students returning immanently to campus, please pray for:

  • Revival in our hearts and on this campus that many would come to know and love Jesus personally and with their whole selves.
  • Pray for Nexus, Christian Union’s biannual conference on faith and action that many students from Yale and other universities would have the opportunity to come and receive from God’s Word sustenance for the journey. (See the website www.nexusconference2016.org for more information.)
  • Pray that students would seek the Lord more today.
  • Pray for our freshman to commit their time at Yale to serving and growing in the Lord.
  • Pray for the students facing diverse and overwhelming trials, that they would seek and find refuge in the Lord.
  • Pray for Laurel Copp, our Women’s Ministry Fellow here at Yale, to return from her maternity leave and balance work and family responsibilities well.

God bless you, from beautiful New Haven!

Yours in Christ,

Jane Hendrickson
