How the State Serves Both Salvation and Religious Freedom

By  Jonathan Leeman
From 9Marsks.org

Don’t put too much hope in government. But don’t give up on it either. Churches need good governments. In fact, God gave the world governments so that churches can do their work in peace. The government’s work is a prerequisite to the mission of the church and salvation, just as learning to read is a prerequisite to reading the Bible...

Why Should We Care About the Arts?

By Richard B. Hayes
From FaithAndLeadership.com

Christians should be attentive to the ways in which the character of our community is shaped by the imaginative spaces we inhabit, says the dean of Duke Divinity School."

This article (and the devotional below) was one of several resources suggested for participants in the Christian Union Day & Night 21-Day Fast. Though the fast is now underway, you are invited to join at any time.

As part of the fast mentioned above, Christian Union ministry faculty members have written a series of devotionals on the theme of the fast, one for each of the 21 days. All who sign up for the fast will receive the devotionals via email each day. Here is the first of the devotionals, by Garrett Brown, who serves students at Stanford University.

Prayer Requests

UNIVERSITY MINISTRIES

Please pray for our university ministries as returning student 'pre-retreats' begin to take place, and as new students are welcomed to campus. Pray that God would prepare and unite the returning student leaders, and that each university ministry would be diligent to reach out well to the incoming freshmen.

CITY MINISTRIES
Please join us in praying for the 2018 graduates of Christian Union University Ministries entering the workforce or graduate school to find new churches and spiritual communities, for mentors to guide and encourage them, and for growth in understanding their work and all of life through the lens of faith. We’re encouraged by, and praise God for, those in New York City and Washington, DC, to whom we’re able to minister.

DAY & NIGHT
Pray for a cultural revolution in our country. More than 2,000 Christians across the nation have joined Christian Union Day and Night to fast and pray for 21 days for this one reason — and it's not too late if you would still like to join. We are believing God’s promise that He gives more grace to those who humble themselves. Pray for God’s grace to wash over our nation, in the name of Jesus.
