Christian Union New York hosted an evening of fellowship and fun for young professionals on Saturday, September 30, 2017.Christian Union's campus ministries, as well as other young professionals and recent graduates (classes of 2011-2017) to sailed down the Hudson and into New York Harbor on the yacht Manhattan II.Guests enjoyed snacks, beer, wine, and soft drinks as they got to know other Christians in the city and hear more about what Christian Union has to offer professionals to thrive in the city and engage redemptively in work and culture. How Can Christians Be Most Strategic in Impacting Culture?

Out of the 3,039 four-year colleges and universities in the country, 63 percent of the most influential leaders in our nation come from just twenty universities. Christian Union develops Christian leaders at the leading universities in America, in the most culturally strategic cities, and through the Christian Union Day and Night initiative. The ministry is confident that this three-pronged approach will have extraordinary influence on our culture and society, transforming the landscape of the entire nation, for God’s glory. Nearly 1,400 students from Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Harvard Law, Princeton, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale are enrolled in one of more than 250 semester-long Christian Union faculty-led Bible courses.

Addenbrooke ’17 Has Burden for the Lost, for Yale

As the editor-in-chief of the Yale Daily News, Stephanie Addenbrooke often worked until 4 a.m. to oversee the production of the next edition of the newspaper. It was an exhausting, trying time for Addenbrooke, who had to attend classes later in the day and balance other responsibilities while assuming the helm of “The Oldest College Daily” in the United States. On campus, things were tumultuous. She noted how headlines often focused on “racism, sexual assault, crime, discrimination, depression, injustice, and overwhelming dissatisfaction.”

Ministry Director Thankful His Family Stepped out in Faith

Hey Jim, hope all is well with you. Just thought I’d reach out to let you know how grateful I am for the guidance you gave me throughout undergrad. I’ve been meeting with a guy here at graduate school every so often… and it’s been good. But it reminded me of how huge it was to have that from you (and your family) during a pivotal four years of my personal growth. Love you all — Josh A dear friend and former student sent me that text this morning and it caused me to reflect on God’s kindness and faithfulness to me over the last six years of surprising service in Christian Union. You see, in the summer of 2011, my family and I made a remarkable transition. I had been joyfully serving as the senior pastor of a church in the Houston, Texas area for a number of years. I loved being a pastor and felt very content in my calling.

Ministry Director Exhorts Seniors

As the class of 2017 prepared for commencement, Christian Union’s undergraduate ministry director at Harvard emphasized the significance of seeking God above personal advancement.  “I hope that you have encountered  – and enjoyed  – the Living God,” Don Weiss told students during the ministry’s leadership lecture series on April 28. “Do not give up in pursuing God.”

Green '84 is the Christian Leader of the Year

Since graduating from Princeton University in 1984, Elizabeth Stevenson Green has gained recognition for her remarkable efforts to homeschool her 12 children, including a girl adopted from China and sibling groups of four and two from Ethiopia. The former campus minister with Cru also serves as a Christian role model by hosting Bible studies and mentoring young women. As well, Elizabeth and Howard Green have directed youth and young adult fellowship groups and guided engaged and married couples through pre- and post-marital counseling.

Christian Union Ministry at Princeton Hosts Seminars, Lectures

Galileo Galilei, the Italian astronomer and physicist, once opined that mathematics is the “language in which God has written the universe.” With that quotation as a launching point, a Princeton University senior recently led a seminar on behalf of Christian Union for students to probe the idea that the field of mathematics reflects a divine blueprint of the universe.  “Math seems to be incredibly powerful for describing God’s creation,” said Matt O’Rourke ’17. “Physicists have thought this for a while. Nobody really quite understands why.” The physics major led the discussion on April 22 in East Pyne Hall as part of a series from Christian Union’s ministry at Princeton exploring the relationship between Christianity and the sciences and mathematics. The META initiative, which began in October, aimed to foster conversations on Christianity and culture.

Christian Union Join City-Wide Outreach

It was Jesus Week in New York City. Scott Crosby had the honor of closing in prayer at the culminating event, a massive praise and proclamation rally to lift up the name of Jesus in Times Square. Crosby, the ministry director for Christian Union New York, looked over the crowd of thousands of believers, seekers, and onlookers, and prayed the words of Psalm 107.

Manion ’18 Inspired by Summer Bible Study

As an emerging leader at Columbia University, Kerry Manion ’18 was struck by the relevance of the lessons inside the ancient book of Judges. Throughout the tumultuous Old Testament chronology, God positioned champions to rescue the Israelites from formidable enemies. “The judges were all chosen by God,” said Manion, who has growing responsibilities across Columbia’s spiritual, sports, and service arenas.

Jeffery Gao '18 Gears Up for Senior Year

Jeffrey Gao, a rising senior and member of the lightweight rowing team, is on  the final lap of his Dartmouth College days.  It’s been three fantastic years for the San Diego native, who is a co-president of Christian Union’s ministry on campus. With the wind at his back, Gao is preparing for the start of his senior year, welcoming incoming freshmen, and continuing to be an ambassador for Christ on the rowing team. A computer science and economics double major, he enjoyed a summer internship with a research and experience management company in downtown Seattle, but is eager to return to campus in Hanover, New Hampshire and his role with Christian Union’s leadership development ministry.
