A handful of universities and cities have an outsized influence on our nation’s culture. Nearly 70 percent of the nation’s most influential leaders come from just one percent of schools. Many of these institutions, including Yale, were founded on Christian principles. Yale’s charter states that it was granted on account of the petitioning founders’ “sincere regard to and zeal for upholding and propagating of the Christian Protestant religion by a succession of learned and orthodox men.” Today, however, Yale is decidedly secular and, in many cases, overtly antagonistic to the Christian faith. This rocky ground is where Christian Union Lux sets its stake.

Many of these institutions, including Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, were founded on Christian principles. In some cases, they were actually seminaries, designed to train young people to follow God.
Today, however, they are decidedly secular and, in many cases, overtly antagonistic to the Christian faith. This rocky ground is where Christian Union sets its stake. For decades, the United States has been in a steady moral decline, with increasing numbers leaving the church, and adopting ways of life that ignore and dishonor God. While good Christian initiatives spring onto the national scene occasionally, the overall trend has been downward for many years, which can be observed anecdotally in TV programs, in the laws passed, and in the nation’s court decisions.
The God of the Universe is patient, slow to anger, and merciful, but will not continually tolerate rebellion against Him without bringing judgment and correction (Exodus 34:6, 7). He does not desire the death of anyone, but that humanity would repent and return to Him (Ezekiel 18:30-32). He promises that when His people seek Him with all their hearts, He will hear and respond (2 Chronicles 7:13, 14; Luke 11:1-13 and James 4:1-10), forgiving their sin and pouring out His Holy Spirit with many blessings.
With so many decades of spiritual decline, the damage to the nation’s families, educational institutions, business norms, and governmental structures gets worse, making restoration all the more difficult. There is an urgent need to take action right now to stop the downward spiral and trust God for a radical and sweeping reversal.
In its history, America has experienced five major moves of God that have radically realigned the nation according to God’s purposes. These include the Great Awakening of the 1730s and ’40s, the Second Great Awakening from 1801-1830’s, the Businessman’s Revival of 1857-58, the Pentecostal Awakening of 1906, and the Jesus Movement of the 1970s. America has perhaps the best revival history in the world, such that Christians from other nations have learned America’s Christian history that they might emulate it. These great moves of God are always preceded by large numbers of Christians repenting of sins, praying, fasting, and seeking God’s face for His will (2 Chronicles 7:13, 14).

Christian Union America is Inspiring and Mobilizing the Body of Christ Every Day.
CU Fire Retreats. Christian Union America leads quarterly 1.5-day nationwide simulcast retreats for small groups for spiritual rejuvenation. Attendees experience life-changing impacts through these spiritually-focused weekends, learning what God is like, how to seek Him, and how to step forward with bold faith.
CU National Fasts. Christian Union America mobilizes thousands of Christians across America to fast, pray, repent of sins, and seek God’s face through many initiatives year-round. Cultures change from the top down.
Leaders shape the future of our country by determining what media gets disseminated, what laws get passed, and how major decisions get made. Today, however, we see many examples of failing leadership. We are a country that does not always protect the most vulnerable among us, that worships idols, such as money and fame, and that is focused on secular, earthly goals rather than spiritual and eternal ones. Raising up godly leaders within our most influential institutions is the start of having God at the center of our culture. Christian Union invites you to become a partner in creating faithful leaders to transform our nation.
Who is shaping tomorrow's leaders?
A handful of universities and cities have an outsized influence on our nation’s culture. Nearly 70 percent of the nation’s most influential leaders come from just one percent of schools. Many of these institutions, including Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, were founded on Christian principles. In some cases, they were actually seminaries, designed to train young people to follow God.
Today, however, they are decidedly secular and, in many cases, overtly antagonistic to the Christian faith. This rocky ground is where Christian Union sets its stake. Since its founding in 2002, Christian Union has been dedicated to developing Christian leaders from these schools, as well as in the cities where they are most likely to live and work after they graduate.

Christian Union believes that widespread proclamation of the Gospel and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit will transform these universities and as a result, our nation. This new spiritual vitality will be built by students shaped at these influential universities. The ministry develops leaders through mentoring and in-depth biblical study that honors the needs of the intellectual, intensely motivated students at these institutions.
Highly-qualified ministry faculty guide students in a deep understanding of their Christian faith. Through Bible courses and discipleship they learn to seek God’s purpose for their lives and graduate ready to do His work in the world. After graduation, Christian Union continues to nurture leaders with the faith and power to reshape our institutions through our alumni engagement programs and through CU New York.
