The Power of Persevering Prayer

Friday, June 24, 2022, will go down in history as a momentous day—the day Roe v. Wade was overturned. Though much of America roils at the decision, for Christians, the ruling is not only a giant step toward saving the lives of thousands of children every year, it is an answer to decades of prayer for the Lord to intervene.

After 49 years of lobbying against abortion, praying fervently for the Lord to make a way for abortion to cease, and laying the foundation for the care of mothers and newborn babies, Christians everywhere are rejoicing.

A recent Christianity Today article by Daniel Silliman expressed that joy and relief, stating, "After more than 63 million abortions, the time has come."

The 6-3 vote was announced suddenly on June 24, but not without much anticipation. After a leaked document revealed the planning and thinking of the Supreme Court, millions engaged in protests and marches in an attempt to preserve the one-time right.

The Christianity Today article noted that the overturning of Roe has been in the works for years, with many legal scholars clearly articulating how the original decision was in the wrong.

“Roe was wrongly decided and poorly reasoned,” wrote the attorneys for Americans United for Life. “Numerous adjudicative errors during the original deliberations—especially the absence of any evidentiary record—have contributed to making Roe unworkable… There is a constant search for a constitutional rationale for Roe, and the Court has yet to give a reasoned justification for the viability rule.”

Christian Union rejoices over the decision to end the right to abortion but knows that the work has only just begun. Providing the necessary care and support for mothers who have children without the support they need will be an ongoing endeavor. Join us in praying fervently for our nation in the coming months.
