CU New York Hosts Dr. Ryan T. Anderson
Christian Union New York invited Christian Union Alumni, CU New York participants, and friends of Christian Union to gather on November 29, 2022, for a virtual forum with Dr. Ryan T. Anderson. Drawing on the best insights from biology, psychology, and philosophy, Dr. Anderson offered a nuanced view of human embodiment, a balanced approach to public policy on gender identity, and a sober assessment of the human costs of getting human nature wrong.
As Christian leaders, it is critical that we are engaged with and current on cultural arguments, understanding them thoroughly so that we are able to respond with the gospel in grace and truth. Dr. Anderson presented seven areas of concern for Christians‚—and for all American citizens—regarding mistaken understandings of gender and sex that are prevalent in culture today: privacy, safety, equality, liberty, family, bodily integrity, and ideology.
According to cited research studies, Anderson explained various stats regarding youth and adults who experience gender conflict. 80-95% of youth with a gender conflict naturally grow out of the conflict without medical intervention. 41% of adults who identify as transgender attempt suicide in their lifetime. Adults with a “sex-reassignment surgery” are 19 times more likely to die by suicide.
Despite these tragic statistics, our culture continues to push for mistaken understandings of gender and sex across medicine, law, sports, and other societal institutions. Through the lens of Dr. Anderson’s secular research, he offers an insightful perspective into the foundational and unchanging biblical revelation on gender and sex as male and female, as well as practical and deeply compassionate applications of this biblical worldview.
