A Prayer and Fasting Devotional

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed…Oh taste and see that the Lord is good! –Psalm 34:4-5, 8

I have recently had the wild blessing of witnessing a powerful conversion. I have seen a man who has never known what it is like to be excluded, who has proven his worth through successful business, who lives the seemingly charmed life of prosperity, a good name and the love of many, step out of darkness and into glorious light.

As I listened to his story, I learned it was grace that changed him. He had been confronted with a very deep wound he had inflicted on a friend. He was told of how his actions and words had caused profound suffering, even devastation, in the life of his friend, and how this friend had come to forgive him because of her relationship with the Lord. When she confronted him, she asked for confession, for confirmation that her wounds were real, and then she told him of how she had forgiven him of his actions and that she even loved him in spite of the way he had treated her. This man, who had an enviable life in the eyes of many, was brought to his knees by grace. He was given forgiveness that was undeserved, love that was unthinkable. He later recounted that as his friend spoke to him, comforting him in his tears and sorrow, he felt like a beam of light was piercing his heart and driving out the darkness.

How beautiful is our King of Glory. In him, no darkness exists at all, and when we belong to him, he promises to shine light into our brokenness and darkest places.

How beautiful is our King of Glory, that when we look to him we are radiant as we reflect his beauty.

How beautiful is our King of Glory, who extends grace to the sinner, who loves the unlovable.

Consider today the power of the gospel; that when it is preached sinners are saved, the lost are brought home, the darkness becomes like the light of day. Seek the Lord, let him deliver you from your fears, let your face never be ashamed in the light of his glory. Taste and see that our King of Glory is good.
