I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel . . . (Phil. 1:3-5)

I hope this finds you well, trusting in the Lord. I am grateful for our partnership of prayer in the gospel. As I remember you with thanksgiving, I want to give you a few updates to inform your prayers as the new academic year begins.

First, more than 500 men and women will come onto campus in the last weeks of August to begin their HLS journey as 1Ls. During our 1L Welcome events, we want to meet as many of these students as possible and invite them into our growing Christian community. The first year is by far the most difficult time for these students. There is always more study and work to do than can be done. That is just the nature of law school, especially at HLS. Some students will come from healthy and encouraging circumstances, including rich discipleship at home, church, and even college. Many will come from other experiences, ranging from rebellion against or disinterest in the Lord to painful or traumatic experiences that threaten to blind them from the King’s beauty and fullness of joy in following Him.

Please pray that the incoming 1L students who are Christians will settle into local church families where they will be shepherded well in the ways of the Lord. For those who do not know Him, pray that they will hear of Christ and His salvation in truth. And pray that the CU faculty and our students will play a significant part, supplementing local church discipleship with excellence and declaring the gospel with great joy.

Second, Coram Deo Law has a tremendous opportunity to extend Christ-centered fellowship and discipleship to these students. Almost all of our current students were 1Ls just last year. And they are eager to not just talk about but demonstrate the love of Christ that they have enjoyed in community with one another. Our current students know firsthand how Christ himself cares for His people as they study the Scriptures together and pray for one another. And they want to draw as many new 1Ls as possible into this love and care of Christ on the HLS campus.

Please pray that many incoming 1Ls will join our CDL community and find an abundance of love and encouragement. Pray that our 2Ls and 3Ls will welcome and mentor these new students. Pray that as the Lord knits their hearts together, He will strengthen them to help one another grow in the knowledge of God for fruitful labors on the HLS campus.

Thank you again for your prayers. May the Lord strengthen us all according to his glorious might for endurance and joy as we bear much fruit in every good work by his grace.

Your partner in the gospel at HLS,

Michael Wilkinson
Christian Union Ministry Director
