Soli Deo Gloria!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I just listened to a sermon by the late, great pastor Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. He summed up Paul’s epistle to the Romans as “Soli Deo Gloria!” The summum bonum of the cosmos and all of redemptive history is the glory of God in Jesus Christ. As we near the completion of this fall semester, God’s glory is particularly evident on the campus of Penn.

Penn’s largest ever Freshmen class has shown great promise as Christian leaders, and has been involved in the ministry from the first day of the term. Our upperclassmen have shown exemplary leadership, with humility, in inviting these new students into the CU fold.

Along with our Bible Courses, Philia has been a glorious display of God’s grace in bringing a large portion of our students together on Thursday evenings.

As finals commence and students head out for break, would you pray with us for the following?

  • For strength and encouragement of our students as they prepare for and take their final examinations. Pray for stamina, strength, wisdom and hope. Pray that they would minister to other stressed out students with grace and peace, as a way of pointing their peers to Jesus Christ.
  • For God’s Spirit to bring conviction in terms of maintaining disciplines of grace. Winter (and summer) break is a dangerous time to get “out of sorts” spiritually. Pray that the students would continue to grow in God’s word and carve out time each day to pursue the Lord while home for the holidays.
  • For a joy-filled Advent and Christmas season. Please pray for churches around the country and world to preach the amazing incarnation story this Christmas, and that our students would hold fast to the story of Christ’s birth and all the fulfillment of the promises of God represented therein.
  • For our staff to find rest and rejuvenation after a busy fall semester.
  • As always, we ask for your prayers that God would keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and that the Gospel would go forth unhindered on campus. Prepare us for the proclamation of the Gospel this spring term, and that God’s Spirit would bring the refreshment of new life in Christ through this ministry.

All for God’s glory!

in Christ our King
