Lane Young

Director of Undergraduate Ministry at Columbia

LaneAfter graduating from Indiana University in 1989 with a BA in economics, Lane began the first part of his vocational career as an Artillery Officer in the US Army, followed by commercial banking and small business ownership.

After selling his family's business, Lane started his vocational ministry experiences as a student at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and continued at the Black Forest Academy in Germany where Lane and his family served as missionaries for seven years.

In 2010, Lane moved to Wheaton, Illinois, where he served as US Director of his sending mission agency, TeachBeyond, while completing a master's degree from Wheaton College in Christian Formation and Ministry.

Before joining the faculty of Christian Union, Lane was the youth pastor at Church of the Resurrection, an Anglican church in Wheaton.

Lane and his wife, Michelle, have three adult children.

Nick Nowalk

Teaching Fellow at Columbia

Nick-NowalkNick is from the New Jersey / New York area. He became a Christian during his freshman year at High Point University through the influence of a student-led Cru ministry. He earned a BA in English Writing with a minor in Religion/Philosophy, and then moved to the Twin Cities to attend Bethel Seminary. While earning an MDiv, he also served as a youth pastor and as staff at Minnesota Teen Challenge.

He next spent two years as a pastoral apprentice at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis under John Piper in The Bethlehem Institute, and concurrently he taught a number of theology and Bible classes at the undergraduate and graduate level. Nick studied at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary prior to joining Christian Union in 2008.  He has written several curriculums for Christian Union's University ministries, including Sex & Spirituality, Romans and Hebrews. He is currently working on a book on the story-shaped spirituality of the Psalms, and in his free time loves all things NYC, jogging in Central Park, and reading great novels over allegedly good coffee.

Ava Ligh

Ministry Fellow at Columbia

Ava-LighAva is a graduate of Columbia University with a BA in East Asian Languages and Cultures. She worked as a management consultant for two years before joining the New York City Teaching Fellows through which she earned an MS in Elementary Education while teaching in the South Bronx. Ava lives in New York City with her husband, Peter, and their three children, Karis, Erenei, and Checed. They attend Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Bryant Parsons

Ministry Fellow at Columbia

BryantBryant Parsons was born in Trinidad and Tobago and now resides in Brooklyn, New York. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary.

Bryant attends and serves in various capacities at Bridge Church NYC. He is a New York Sports fan.

Jesse Peterson

Ministry Fellow at Columbia

jesseJesse grew up in Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities where he studied Music (Percussion / Composition) as well as Classical Hebrew. He later graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary with an MDiv. Jesse joined Christian Union in 2011.

Yolanda Solomon

Ministry Fellow at Columbia

Yolanda-SolomonYolanda was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Ithaca College where she studied Television/Radio Production. Yolanda has worked on numerous television/film productions in NYC. In 2010, Yolanda earned an MA in Urban Missions from Westminster Theological Seminary. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and children, and they attend Epiphany Church.
